Authorities arrest suspect after fatal hit-and-run accident in Anderson County

Anderson County officials have arrested a man involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash Tuesday afternoon.

The fatal hit-and-run crash killed 65-year-old William Albert Green of Piedmont on Wednesday, Aug. 13, on Tall Oaks Circle in Anderson County, according to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore’s office.

Green died as a result of numerous traumatic injuries resulting from blunt force trauma.

According to the Anderson County Detention Center, officers arrested Joshua Everette Crumpler and charged him with the hit-and-run that killed Green.

Crumpler is accused of driving the vehicle that struck Green’s vehicle, fleeing the scene of the accident and abandoning it in a wooded area off River Road.

What should you know about a fatal hit-and-run?

The Anderson County Fire Department, Medshore EMS, Anderson County EMS, South Carolina Highway Patrol, South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT Team, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office arrived on scene.

Officers stated that the victim was traveling east on River Road toward his residence in Piedmont in a small pickup truck. He attempted to turn left onto Tall Oak Circle when his vehicle was struck from behind and overturned.

During their investigation, officers determined that the victim was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially thrown from the vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The investigation is being conducted by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner, the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the South Carolina Highway Patrol-MAIT Team.
