Zeekr introduces improved EV batteries with 5.5C ultra-fast charging

The facts

  • What’s new? Zeekr has introduced improved prismatic lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.
  • Loading speed? These new batteries support ultra-fast charging at 5.5C, reducing the charging time from 10% to 80% SOC to just 10.5 minutes.
  • Which model? The 2025 model year Zeekr 007 sedan will be the first to be equipped with these new batteries, with deliveries starting next week.
  • Why it is important: This technology aims to reduce range anxiety by making charging faster and more convenient.
  • Additional features? The improved batteries work efficiently even under extreme conditions and charge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes at -10 degrees Celsius.
  • Infrastructure: Zeekr is expanding its charging station network and plans to reach 1,000 ultra-fast charging stations by 2024 and over 10,000 charging stations by 2026.
  • What else? From September, Zeekr will also introduce the urban navigation Zeekr Pilot (NZP) with intelligent driving assistance.

What is that?

Zeekr has developed improved prismatic lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for electric vehicles. These batteries support ultra-fast charging at 5.5C, allowing electric vehicles to be charged from 10% to 80% state of charge (SOC) in just 10.5 minutes. The Zeekr 007 sedan (2025) will be the first model to use these new batteries.

Why does it exist?

The new batteries are designed to meet the increasing demand for faster and more efficient charging solutions in the electric vehicle market. Range anxiety is a common problem among electric vehicle users, and Zeekr’s improved LFP batteries solve this problem by significantly reducing charging times. The batteries use optimized materials and advanced technology that outperforms conventional nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries.

The improved battery management system (BMS) ensures stable and fast charging, even under harsh environmental conditions. For example, at temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius, the vehicles can still be charged from 10% to 80% SOC within 30 minutes.

How will it help?

By reducing charging times for a significant portion of the battery to just 10.5 minutes, Zeekr minimizes downtime and makes electric vehicles more convenient as more drivers are on the road and need to use charging stations.

In addition, Zeekr is expanding its charging infrastructure to support this new technology. Zeekr already has over 500 ultra-fast charging stations in operation across China and plans to increase this number to 1,000 stations by 2024. With this, Zeekr aims to have a comprehensive charging network. The company aims to have over 10,000 ultra-fast charging stations in operation by 2026.

Zeekr also announced that it will begin shipping the Zeekr Pilot (NZP) city navigation feature in September. This feature provides intelligent driving assistance on city roads.
