Edmund David Chance Jr.

Police arrested Edmund David Chance Jr., a Level 3 sex offender, on Thursday for failure to register with the Sex Offender Registry Board.

Chance, 53, was separately wanted for questioning in connection with an incident Tuesday in which a “suspicious male” traveling in Marshfield’s Humarock neighborhood allegedly offered a ride in his car to a 17-year-old girl who was jogging, according to a statement from Massachusetts State Police.

When the teenager refused, the man followed her until she ran away and called the police, authorities said.

After initially tracking down Chance following the incident, Marshfield police later discovered he had failed to register when he moved, which is required by law for Level 3 sex offenders, officials said.

Scituate and Marshfield police subsequently asked the public for help in locating Chance.

According to authorities, Chance has been found guilty of several charges in the past, including rape and kidnapping.

Police found and arrested Chance in Hingham for failure to register and took him to Hingham District Court for arraignment.
