Bally Sports’ marriage with the Charlotte Hornets continues…but for how long?

Well, it looks like the Charlotte Hornets will be staying with Bally Sports, at least for now.

On Friday, a report from Awful’s Daniel Kaplan surfaced announcing that Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of Ball Sports, had agreed to a deal to continue broadcasting the games of nine NHL and 13 NBA teams.

“Bally Sports Regional Networks has taken a major step toward exiting its lengthy Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings by entering into new contracts with the NHL and NBA to broadcast team games through at least the end of the upcoming 2024-25 season. The news was contained in court documents asking the bankruptcy court to approve the contracts.”

According to the report, Diamond Sports Group must submit an exit plan under the US Chapter 11 procedure before the end of the upcoming NHL and NBA seasons. Otherwise, the current contracts will be terminated.

Hornets fans have been incredibly harsh in their opinions of Bally Sports over the years. An exclusive game streaming deal makes it difficult for those who either don’t have internet, don’t have a strong internet connection, or perhaps aren’t willing to pay for the subscription. A local TV deal seems to be the best way to go, but those talks won’t begin until this current deal with DSG expires.
