The KJ Show, Episode 99: Trees – a dubious climate solution

Each week I host The KJ Show, a mix of breaking news and practical advice on the impact of the energy industry on the consumer. In this fast-paced show I combine weekly energy updates with conversations with leading minds in the energy efficiency community.

After each show, I share it here with the Energy Central community in case you couldn’t make it live.

The KJ Show #99 – Trees – a solution for shady climates

Trees have been called the “lungs” of the earth. Not only do they provide us with shade on hot days, but they also store carbon, create diverse habitats and beautify our planet. But while carbon offsetting by planting trees is becoming increasingly popular, recent studies suggest that we don’t have the right trees, or enough trees, to achieve these lofty goals.

On today’s show, our host Dr. Katherine Johnson talks about how trees are helping utilities reduce their energy consumption, but the best approach is to leave the trees alone.
