A boil water advisory has been issued for parts of the Myrtle Grove community

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for portions of Myrtle Grove Road and surrounding areas, effective immediately Friday, August 23.

Approximately 200 customers are affected at the following addresses: 7100 to 7416 Myrtle Grove Road, all of Joey Court, all of Sand Winds Mobile Home Park, all of Southeast Harbor, all of Myrtle Grove Landing, and 1636, 1638 and 1648 Sand Bar Lane.

Emergency crews are working to repair a leak in a water main in the area.

If there is temporarily no or only low pressure in the water distribution system, there is an increased risk of backflow and the penetration of bacteria into the water system.

When a boil water advisory is in effect, customers are asked to boil their water for one minute and then allow it to cool before consumption. Alternatively, they can use an alternative water source, such as bottled water.

Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice cream, preparing meals, washing fruits and vegetables, eating pets, and preparing baby food. Customers do NOT need to boil water before showering or bathing.

Before a boil water advisory is lifted, CFPUA laboratory staff test the water to ensure it is safe to drink.
