Instagram adds new MySpace-like music feature
Instagram is adding a new music feature that lets you show off your taste on your profile, reminiscent of 2000s MySpace.
It feels like a trip back in time – when you could hear your favorite song every time you went to a friend’s MySpace profile – Instagram is making music a more central feature. “Now you can show off your music taste by adding a song to your profile,” Instagram writes in a social media announcement.

Songs can already be added to stories and, more recently, posts, but with this update you can add music directly to your profile without having to post anything new.
To add music to your profile, navigate to your profile settings and select “Add music to your profile.” From there, you can either browse for songs or explore the “For You” section.
Once you’ve selected a title, you’ll have the option to feature a specific 30-second snippet on your profile. This snippet will remain until you update it.
However, unlike Myspace, the songs do not play automatically. Visitors to a user’s profile have the option to play or pause the added song at any time.
Social media users reacted to the news on Twitter. “Myspace is back, nature heals,” said one user.
Another added: “Anyone who hates the music feature for Instagram profiles hates MySpace. I dunno but I’m excited. Also bring back top 10 friends so we can start messing this shit up.”

If someone hates the music feature for Instagram profiles, that just means they hate MySpace. I dunno, but I’m excited. Also bring back top 10 friends so we can start messing this shit up.

Some people, however, are less happy with the app’s additional music features. “Instagram is so damn loud, all your pictures don’t need music, people,” said one.

At the beginning of the month, Universal Music Group (UMG) announced an expanded meta-license agreement that, among other things, provides for fair compensation for artists.
In addition, it will address unauthorized, AI-generated content that could impact artists and songwriters.
Accordingly The edgeInstagram is introducing the feature in collaboration with pop star Sabrina Carpenter. Carpenter’s official Instagram profile featured a teaser for “Taste” from her recently released album ahead of the track’s official release.
“Taste” by Sabrina Carpenter is out now and is accompanied by a music video starring Jenna Ortega.
