Shane van Gisbergen will compete in seven of the last twelve NASCAR Cup races

Shane van Gisbergen, a full-time contender for NASCAR Xfinity Series Rookie of the Year, has added two NASCAR Cup Series events to his 2024 racing schedule. The 35-year-old will now compete in seven of the final 12 NASCAR Cup Series events of the season.

The two additional races for SVG come courtesy of a primary sponsorship deal with Acceptance Insurance. The company will outfit Kaulig Racing’s No. 16 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the September 1 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway and the September 8 event at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Acceptance, like the New Zealand native, is relatively new to NASCAR and is excited to partner with them in the NASCAR Cup Series.

“I’m so grateful to have Acceptance Insurance come on board and support my Cup Series experience,” Van Gisbergen said in a team press release. “Acceptance is a growing brand, like I am in NASCAR. I’m excited to represent them, work with them and make them known to every NASCAR fan. Racing in both Cup and Xfinity with Kaulig Racing will keep everyone on their toes, but I didn’t come to America to watch racing. I came to race.”

While the driver’s plans for 2025 have not yet been announced, there are strong rumors that SVG could move permanently to the NASCAR Cup Series.

The seven races van Gisbergen will compete in over the remainder of the season include this weekend’s races at Daytona, Darlington, Atlanta, Watkins Glen (September 15), Talladega (October 6), Las Vegas (October 20) and Martinsville (November 3).

In six NASCAR Cup Series starts, SVG has one win, one top-five and two top-10 finishes. The win came in the drivers’ series debut at the Chicago Street Course in 2023. Van Gisbergen has three wins in the first 21 starts of his NASCAR Xfinity Series career and will compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs as the driver of the No. 97 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet Camaro.
