12-year-old boy dies after falling from upper floor of Kennington flat

A 12-year-old boy has died after falling from a flat in south London, police said.

At 4.23pm on Friday, officers rushed to Hotspur Street in Kennington where they received a report that the victim had fallen from the upper floor.

An adult woman was treated on site and taken to hospital.

The Metropolitan Police have cordoned off the area near Brixton and Vauxhall in Lambeth.

A police spokesman said: “Despite all efforts, the child was confirmed dead. The child’s family has been informed.”

“At this point in time, there is no indication that the incident is suspicious, but investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances.

“The crime scene is cordoned off.”

The flowers laid in front of the block on Saturday morning bore the message: “Rest in peace, my best friend who left too soon.”

Another said: “With love and prayers, Nanna.”

Vauxhall MP Florence Eshalomi added: “It is very sad to hear of the sad death of a young child who fell from a block of flats in Hotspur Street, SE11, this afternoon. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”

London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 4.21pm today to reports of a person falling from a building in Hotspur Street, SE11.

“We dispatched numerous resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, paramedics in emergency vehicles, a paramedic and an incident commander.

“We also dispatched a trauma team from London Ambulance Helicopter, consisting of a paramedic and a doctor in a car.

“The first paramedic arrived in less than four minutes.

“Sadly, despite the efforts of our teams, a child died at the scene.

“We treated a second patient and took her to the hospital.”

Lambeth Council posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Incredibly sad news.

“A young child has died this afternoon following a fall from a block of flats in Kennington.

“Our thoughts are with the child’s family at this tragic and painful time.”

Previously, five-year-old Aalim Ahmed died just over a week ago after falling from his kitchen window on the 15th floor of a high-rise building in east London.

Aalim Ahmed landed on a railing at the foot of the block of flats in Plaistow.

His family identified his body and the cause of death was given as multiple injuries resulting from trauma from a “fall from a great height”.

Aalim died instantly and his father discovered his body shortly before 6am on May 16, Walthamstow Coroner’s Court heard on Friday.
