New Delhi: Two people died of electric shocks in different parts of Delhi on Thursday. The police have filed a complaint in both cases.
A woman was electrocuted in central Delhi’s Ranjeet Nagar on Thursday evening. According to preliminary investigations, she succumbed to an electric shock that flowed through the flooded road. She was on her way to her residence at the time of the incident. The victim, identified as 40-year-old Seema, was immediately rushed to RML Hospital, where she was found dead on arrival.
In the second incident, a 40-year-old man died of electrocution in Delhi’s northwestern Kirari area. The deceased was identified as Sanjay, a resident of Prem Nagar.
Police said they received a call around 7pm on Thursday that a person had been electrocuted at his house in Kirari. A police team arrived at the scene and took the man to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
A police official said rainwater entered his house from the road and probably got electrified when it came in contact with the electric circuit. A case under Section 106 (death due to negligence) of the BNS has been filed at PS Prem Nagar police station in this connection. Further investigation is underway.
On July 22, a 26-year-old civil services aspirant died of electrocution in Patel Nagar. The incident, the video of which was shared online, sparked an uproar across the capital. The deceased was identified as Nilesh Rai.
Just two days later, a 45-year-old man died of electrocution in North Delhi’s Sadar Bazar. The incident occurred when the person accidentally came in contact with an exposed electric cable that was submerged in a flooded area next to a jhuggi. The jhuggi had an unauthorised electricity connection. The cables from this chaotic environment caused the flooded area to become electrified, leading to the electrocution, police said at the time.
