The future of the veteran Cardinals hurler at the club is reportedly “anything but certain”

The St. Louis Cardinals face uncertain offseason plans as the club attempts to make up lost ground in the National League Wild Card race.

Depending on how the rest of the season goes for the Cardinals, they could have some difficult decisions to make next winter.

One of those decisions will be whether John Mozeliak, president of baseball operations for the Cardinals, will pursue the option of a club with an experienced hurling player or choose another path.

“Even with his (Lance Lynn) reasonable salary, it is far from certain that the Cardinals will exercise the option,” MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand wrote Thursday, discussing notable players in the league who have club options for 2025.

Lynn has compiled a record of 6-4 with a 4.06 ERA, a 97-41 strikeout-to-walk ratio, a .249 batting average against and a 1.36 WHIP in 106 1/3 innings pitched for St. Louis this season.

The 37-year-old was signed last winter – along with right-handed pitchers Kyle Gibson and Sonny Gray – after Mozeliak decided it would be best to rebuild the depleted rotation with an arsenal of veterans. Gibson was also signed for 2025 and his future with St. Louis could also be uncertain.

It’s too early to accurately predict Lynn’s future in St. Louis. Whether or not the Cardinals make the postseason this year will likely determine where he ends up in 2025. The RHP pitched well in his No. 13 season and it should be interesting to see where he ends up.
