Dancing mothers Former student Kelly Hyland has announced the first milestone in her ongoing breast cancer treatment.

The 53-year-old reality star posted a video on Instagram of herself ringing her hospital bell to signal the end of her first chemotherapy treatment.

“Today I got to ring the bell,” Hyland wrote in the caption of the video, posted on August 20. “That was the end of my first treatment… next steps: surgery, 20 radiation treatments, and 11 more treatments. I DID IT.”

Hyland, dressed in a long white dress and denim jacket, read aloud a sign next to the bell that read: “Ring this bell three times, it’s good to say it clearly. My treatment is finished, this course is over and I’m on my way!”

Then Hyland rang the bell again and added with a laugh, “Oops, I rang it four times.”

The host of the Back to the Barre And Dear dance mom… Podcasts then pats the top of her blonde wig and asks, “Is my hair straight?” before hugging what looks like hospital staff.

The reality star first announced her breast cancer diagnosis in May, saying she was diagnosed with grade 3 invasive carcinoma after a lump was discovered in her breast in late March.

“I booked a mammogram,” said Hyland E! News. “I had just had one done eight months ago and the results were clean. However, this new mammogram and ultrasound were not, they showed a mass.”

“I was shocked that it had grown so quickly and was afraid of the battle that lay ahead.”

As the American Cancer Society explains, grade 3 cancer means that “the cancer cells look very different from normal cells and grow faster… High-grade DCIS is more likely to develop into invasive breast cancer.”

Hyland, who has children Brooke, 26, Paige, 23, and Josh, 24, with her husband Randy, said it was a “very difficult conversation” to share her diagnosis.

She told the outlet, “I hate feeling like I’m a burden to anyone or a burden in any way.”

“However, I am quickly learning that I have a very long and hard road ahead of me. That’s why I have to learn to accept the help of others, because I am very lucky that there are people who want to take care of me during this time.”
