Is a NASCAR Cup Series driver in danger of missing the race in Daytona?

For only the fourth time during the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season, the entry list for a race is full.

The entry list for the season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway in February included 42 cars, 40 for the Coca-Cola 600 in May at Charlotte Motor Speedway and 40 for the second annual race in July at the Chicago Street Course.

This weekend, the Cup Series returns to Daytona Beach, Florida, with the Coke Zero Sugar 400. There are 40 cars on the entry list for the 160-lap race on the 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) steeply banked oval track with four turns. It is the penultimate race of the 26-race regular season.

Unlike the Daytona 500, there is no danger of missing the Coke Zero Sugar 400 this weekend.

In addition to the 36 full-time charter entrants, there are also four non-charter cars on the entry list this weekend. Richard Childress Racing has added a third entry, the No. 33 Chevrolet for Austin Hill, and three other teams that do not compete full-time will compete with a single car.

The NY Racing Team will field the No. 44 Chevrolet for Joey Gase, Beard Motorsports will field the No. 62 Chevrolet for Parker Retzlaff, and Live Fast Motorsports will field the No. 78 Chevrolet for BJ McLeod.

As for the charter entries, two were shared by multiple drivers during the 2024 season. Cody Ware will drive the No. 15 Ford for Rick Ware Racing for the sixth time this year (and second consecutive year), while Shane van Gisbergen will drive the No. 16 Chevrolet for Kaulig Racing for the fifth time this year and first since racing in Chicago last month.
