Tennessee: Three removed from the list of DNC speakers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The “Tennessee Three,” lawmakers who faced expulsion from the House for their conduct in the Tennessee House auditorium following the Covenant School shooting, have been removed from the speakers’ schedule for the closing night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Thursday.

Representatives Justin Pearson (D-Memphis), Justin Jones (D-Nashville) and Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville) were scheduled to speak on the final day of the convention, but their speeches were removed from the agenda Thursday afternoon.

Pearson said he was looking forward to the final day of the convention and outlined the key issues he wanted to communicate to the delegates and the country.

“It’s been so electrifying already. So many different voices, so many different ideas,” Pearson said.

The congressman from Memphis seems to be convinced by the Harris-Walz ticket and the mission of the Democratic Party as a whole.

“I really believe that the folks at the DNC and the Harris campaign can raise the issue of ending the gun violence epidemic in a way that matters to us in Tennessee, to the Tennessee Three and to our entire community,” Pearson said.

When asked what he wanted to say to delegates at the DNC, Peason said he wanted to remind people that we cannot take our democracy for granted.

“I think we’ve seen in every single speech how important it is to organize, to mobilize, to be activated, and it’s so good for us to have that unity. It’s so good for us to be inspired, and it’s very important that we do the work of knocking on doors, calling, reaching out to our constituents, families, our loved ones to come and participate in this constitutional democratic experiment,” Pearson said.

Pearson said he believes Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz have a chance to help the country address a number of important issues.
