Taylor and Keller are the stars of the Pellston football scene to watch in 2024

PELLSTON – Pellston football is back.

And the Hornets are certainly hoping for a much better season than 2023, when they finished 1-8. But with the return of Jack Carter as head coach, the Hornets are looking to get things back on track.

With fall camp already underway, here’s a look at the Pellston players to keep an eye on in 2024.

PELLSTON SCHEDULE STRUCTURE: What games to watch for during the 2024 Pellston football season?

Brach Taylor, Senior – Talent-wise, Taylor is undoubtedly the No. 1 player on this list returning, especially after a great junior season that saw him named to the All-Ski Valley 8-Player Conference. A year ago, he basically showed he can play anywhere on the field. This fall, Taylor is expected to be another big threat on defense as an end or linebacker. On offense, he will likely be one of Pellston’s biggest threats as a pass receiver.

Connor Keller, Junior – If any young Hornet had a promising season last fall, it was Keller, who made several big plays at running back. Keller is a home run threat every time he touches the ball and will likely take it up a notch in his junior season while also spending time at linebacker on defense. For Keller, consistency will be key.

Brady Bonter, Junior – Bonter is a player competing for the quarterback spot. He’s as athletic as can be and has a good chance of getting the job. When he’s not playing quarterback, he’s on the field as a running back or wide receiver. That’s not all for Keller, though, who will likely lead Pellston’s secondary at cornerback.

Brett Bonter, sophomore – Like his brother Brady, Brett is a versatile talent for the Hornets and another who could be used at quarterback. Speaking of versatile, Brett is expected to be used as a running back or tight end. On defense, he will likely be used as an end.

Lucas Livermore, Jr. – One player on Pellston’s roster who may be under the radar is Livermore, who could prove himself as a playmaker at the tight end position. Carter said he expects big things from Livermore, who will also line up as a defensive end. If all goes well, he could be a dangerous weapon in both positions.

Austin Downey, Sr. – We haven’t talked much about who will play up front for the Hornets, but that’s not something to worry about, as Downey is a veteran offensive player who has been with the program since his freshman year, and he will lead Pellston’s defense as a lineman.
