Everything we know about MEOVV, The Black Label’s new band

Earlier this year, rumors began circulating online about a new girl group from South Korean entertainment agency The Black Label, thanks to a series of rehearsal photos featuring a group of “too-cool-for-school” girls – the alleged members of the rumored group. Today, the group has finally been announced and is gradually revealing its members. Here’s everything we know about MEOVV so far, from speculation to hard facts.

MEOVV is the first girl group of The Black Label

The Black Label was founded by renowned Korean producers Teddy Park and Kush, the minds behind some of Blackpink, 2NE1 and Taeyang’s biggest hits. The agency, which is now home to K-pop artists such as Jeon Somi and Blackpink’s Rosé, was founded in 2015 and is a partner company of Hallyu giant YG Entertainment. In February, The Black Label announced plans to form its first-ever K-pop group and had filed a copyrighted trademark for the name MEOVV in April.

MEOVV reportedly has 5 members

Last Friday, The Black Label officially announced the arrival of MEOVV on Instagram. The news came with a trailer showing five black cats on the roof of The Black Label’s headquarters in Hannam-dong and a tag for MEOVV’s Instagram account. The group has been gradually revealing its members and has now confirmed its first two: Ella Gross – a former child model who rose to fame online for her beauty and striking resemblance to Blackpink’s Jennie – and Gawon Lee.

While trailers for the rest of the MEOVV girls have yet to be released, K-pop fans have long been theorizing about the rest of the cast. Among the speculations, the involvement of Korean-American dance prodigy and choreographer Bailey Sok seems almost certain, as the now 20-year-old has already made a name for herself in the K-pop scene through her work with Red Velvet, Aespa, Taemin, and Kai.

MEOVV hosts a pre-debut listening event

While the official date for MEOVV’s debut has not yet been announced, The Black Label has revealed details of a unique pop-up store experience for excited fans. The “MEOVV Debut Pre-Listening Pop-Up” will take place at Hyundai Seoul from August 29 to September 4 and will offer visitors the opportunity to purchase MEOVV merchandise and snap some pictures in a designated photo zone. Those who register for the event in advance will get access to an exclusive listening booth to get a taste of MEOVV’s upcoming music.
