A driver change for the Daytona race confirmed

Two of the 36 charter entries will be shared by a rotation of drivers for the entire 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season.

One of those two cars will have a different driver in this Saturday night’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway than in last Monday’s rain-postponed FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Cody Ware is expected to return for a second consecutive race behind the wheel of the No. 15 Rick Ware Racing Ford, making his sixth appearance of the season, but the No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet is expected to have a different driver.

Shane van Gisbergen will make his fifth Cup Series appearance behind the wheel of the No. 16 Chevrolet for Matt Kaulig’s team, for which he drives full-time in the Xfinity Series. He last competed in the Cup Series at the Chicago Street Course in early July.

Van Gisbergen is one of five drivers to have driven the No. 16 car at some point this season. The other four include his two full-time Xfinity Series teammates, AJ Allmendinger and Josh Williams, as well as Ty Dillon and Derek Kraus.

As for the No. 15 Ford, Ware is one of three drivers this year. The other two are Kaz Grala, who has driven in most of the races, and Riley Herbst.

Four non-charter cars are on the entry list for Saturday’s 160-lap race on the 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) four-turn, banked oval track in Daytona Beach, Florida, making this only the fourth race this year to reach the 40-car limit.

Richard Childress Racing will field a third car, the No. 33 Chevrolet, for Austin Hill, while part-time teams NY Racing Team, Beard Motorsports and Live Fast Motorsports all return, fielding the No. 44 Chevrolet for Joey Gase, the No. 62 Chevrolet for Parker Retzlaff and the No. 78 Chevrolet for BJ McLeod.
