BOCA RATON, FLA. (WSVN) – Emergency crews rushed to the aid of a driver after his car went over a boat ramp at Silver Palm Park in Boca, thanks to the quick intervention of passersby.

The incident occurred shortly before midnight on Thursday. At about the same time, Igor, a local fisherman, was spending his evening in the park when, among other things, he says, he suddenly saw a car drive off the boat ramp into the water.

The driver’s rescue attempt was caught on camera and in the video you can hear Igor and another man shouting to the driver as the car slowly goes under water.

“Yes, my friend,” a man is heard shouting.

The Good Samaritans immediately called 911. Since they couldn’t swim themselves, they did their best to help the driver, even knocking over passersby in the hope that they could provide further assistance.

“911, we’re in Silver Palm Park. Someone just drove their car into the water,” a man said. “Hey, there’s someone in there. Can you swim?”

Shortly after the emergency call was made, Boca rescue teams arrived.

“Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry! There’s a woman in there,” a man shouted.

As the car quickly disappeared under the water and drifted towards a bridge, the crew could be seen putting on their protective gear and jumping into the water. Boats were nearby to assist with the rescue.

The driver was eventually pulled from the water and life-saving measures were initiated.

The condition was unknown Friday morning. The circumstances leading to the incident have not been confirmed.
