Devilish Co-creator Michelle King spoke about Leland’s fate at the end of the fourth season and revealed his possible future after the events of the series finale. The positively reviewed Devilish Season 4 ended with Leland breaking into Kristen’s house to kidnap her and Timothy for a ritual sacrifice with the 60. However, she managed to strangle him and, with the help of David and Ben, take him to the church’s silent monastery where he was kept imprisoned in a box. His fate seems sealed as he is trapped in the small room.

In conversation with the Los Angeles TimesKing explained the meaning of Leland’s fate at the end Devilish Season 4, alongside his possible future after imprisonment in the monastery. The co-creator revealed that While it is optimistic that he is finally defeated, there is still a chance that he can escape and become a threat to Kristen in the future. Read what King had to say below:

First of all, Michael Emerson is divine – and more than any other actor I’ve ever worked with, he is the complete opposite of the character he plays. He is such a nice person and Leland is such a terrible character. But in terms of the pleasure of the end, he was always a force to be reckoned with. In the end, he is reckoned with, he is defeated. If you are optimistic, you will say he was definitively defeated. They did not succumb to murder, so they won ethically too. But it is a cabinet, and people leave cabinets.

Can Leland return after season 4 of “Evil”?

He may not be gone forever

Before his failed attempt to capture Kristen for the 60s ritual, The demonic leader of the group warned him not to fail and said this was his last chance to capture her before he was no longer of any use to the group. Since he was captured in the Silent Monastery, it seems the World Extermination Organization is not coming to rescue him. Their worries may lie in the fact that Timothy is the Antichrist and Kristen still cares about him and wants to make sure they are both dead before starting over with an unbaptized demonic baby.

Because the 60 probably won’t help Lelandhe can only leave the monastery alone. Since he would likely no longer have the support of the demonic families, the only reason he would still pose a threat would be to seek revenge on the assessors who imprisoned him. This would make the demonic entities at DF a constant threat that the group would have to deal with, while at the same time keeping Leland in the cast of Devilish as a secondary antagonist with a personal vendetta.

However, the last episodes of the fourth season also played with the idea that Some of David’s goodness is now in him after their remote viewing session together. If Devilish If the series had continued, Leland might have been seen to become more sympathetic, helpful, and willing to atone for his past crimes. While this wouldn’t absolve him of his antagonistic actions, it does show how different paths his development could have taken if the series had continued beyond season 4 – and how unpredictable his actions would have been after a possible escape.

Devilish
was canceled after season 4 and the last four episodes were intended to conclude the story.
