Olivia Patterson and her burning house

A 6-year-old girl is being hailed as a hero after saving her family from a house fire.

Olivia Patterson was playing outside when she noticed flames coming from the roof of her home in North Yorkshire, England, on April 4, according to British newspaper The times.

According to the outlet and Yorkshire Live, Olivia’s mother Laura, 29, was sleeping on the couch with her two younger siblings Joel-James, 1, and Tiffany, 2, when she ran into their house shouting, “Wake up, mommy – wake up the babies.”

The family managed to escape unharmed from the fire that broke out in the neighboring house and spread to the upper floor of the family’s three-bedroom house.

Olivia’s grandmother Sadie Gelder, 54, had high praise for her “amazing” granddaughter, saying: The times“We are so proud of her. She has ADHD and is just amazing. We can’t believe Olivia got Laura out – she’s six years old and she ran into a burning building.”

“She looked up and saw there was a fire upstairs… she screamed, ‘Wake up, Mommy, the house is burning – wake up the babies.’ People on the street thought no one was there because there was no car in the driveway,” Gelder continued, adding that the family lost almost all of their belongings in the fire.

“They managed to get some baby things, but everything else is gone,” she said. “People have donated beds, bedding, towels – things like that. She was supposed to get another council house, but it’s all the little things … that are helping her rebuild everything.”

Laura and her children are currently staying in an Airbnb, the York Press reported.
