GURGAON: An 11-year-old Girl suffered a broken ankle Fraction after Elevator she allegedly climbed three floors in Raheja Vedantaa Company in Sector 108. According to her parents incident happened on Tuesday afternoon when Hiranyaa boarded the elevator on the third floor of Tower H to attend her class.
In a complaint to the RWAHer parents claimed that the lift had a free fall from the third floor. Within seconds of Hiranyaa boarding the lift, there was a jolt, causing her to lose her balance and fall to the ground, breaking her ankle. When the lift came to a stop, she crawled out and boarded the freight lift to reach her home on the third floor, they said. Video footage from the lift showed her suddenly falling to the ground. She can be seen shaking her ankle and screaming in pain before crawling out.
Describing her daughter’s distress on her return home, Himika Khurana, Hiranyaa’s mother, said, “She was crying profusely and was in severe pain due to the fracture. The RWA neglects the maintenance of the lifts in the residential complex. The lift has a history of frequent malfunctions, including strange noises and sudden jerks, which have been reported to the RWA and the building management of the residential complex several times.” Despite this, no meaningful action has been taken to rectify the problem, she added.
“The club management has consistently ignored our concerns. We pay enormous amounts for maintenance, but only superficial checks are carried out and only when we insist,” she continued.
Himika said despite the gravity of the situation, the RWA has not acknowledged her complaints. “My child is in pain and her studies and health are affected. We demand immediate action, not just repair of the lift but also a comprehensive review of safety measures for all residents, especially the children,” she added.
On Wednesday, the family informed the police about the incident. A police team came to the residential complex but left after the RWA assured that the case would be investigated. No police complaint has been filed so far.
Raheja Vedaanta comprises nine towers housing over 350 families. The RWA, meanwhile, denied allegations of negligence and said it acted quickly when the incident came to light. “On the same day of the incident, we informed the lift manufacturer, who has the annual maintenance contract (AMC) for the lifts. Their team visited the residential complex and conducted a preliminary check of the lifts in Tower H. However, they did not find any technical fault. The lift was functioning normally. Despite this, we have demanded a comprehensive check of all the lifts,” said Ajit Pandey, the president of the RWA.
A spokesman for the developer said: “We handed the company over to RWA about ten years ago and now no longer play a role in it.”
