On August 12, 11-year-old Laila Johnson was the victim of a knife attack while visiting Leicester Square with her mother. The pair were reportedly “attacked” by 32-year-old Ioan Pintaru, who grabbed the child and stabbed her face, shoulder, wrist and neck eight times. The attack was described as a “random attack.”

Pintaru, a Romanian national with no fixed address, was charged last week with attempted murder and possession of a knife object in a public place.

In conversation with an Australian news channel 7NewsLaila Johnson’s mother Samantha revealed that they had been on holiday in London and Laila had been “dreaming” about watching Taylor Swift perform at Wembley. Following the stabbing, Laila was hospitalised and underwent plastic surgery for her serious but non-fatal injuries.

A week after the ordeal, after she had recovered from most of her injuries, Laila and her mother were given VIP tickets to a Taylor performance, where they were accompanied by two police officers.

Laila recalled her concert visit to the Australian Daily Telegraph: “I had to go to the Taylor Swift concert. It was incredible. Some people organised a VIP box for us where there was food and a private toilet, which was very exciting.” She added: “I met so many nice people, especially at the hospital and with the police who looked after me. They were just so nice.”

The Johnsons returned to Australia on Sunday (18 August).

Laila Johnson is just one of many Taylor Swift fans – known as Swifties – who have been victims of violence in recent weeks. On July 29, three children were killed in a stabbing attack that took place at a Swift-related dance and yoga workshop on Hart Street. As reported Sky News, Three of the victims – six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar – have sadly died.

A 17-year-old has been charged with the murder of the three children. Swift has since met with some survivors of the knife attack in Southport during one of her performances at Wembley Stadium as part of her “Eras” tour.

At the beginning of the month, all three of the pop star’s concerts in Vienna during his “Eras Tour” were cancelled after it was announced that two people had been arrested for allegedly planning a terrorist attack during the concerts. The singer was due to play at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium on Thursday (8 August), Friday (9) and Saturday (10), but the promoter Barracuda Music confirmed that he “had no choice but to cancel the three planned concerts for everyone’s safety”.

Swift has since spoken out about the foiled terrorist attack and Chris Martin of Coldplay and singer Maggie Rogers covered Taylor’s “Love Story” for the Swifties at their recent concert in Vienna.
