Devils’ Jack and Luke Hughes add to their impressive resumes

The Hughes family has come a long way since eldest brother Quinn was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks on June 22, 2018 in Dallas, Texas.

Since then, parents Jim and Ellen have witnessed their middle child, Jack Hughes, being selected first overall by the New Jersey Devils, and little brother Luke Hughes followed in his footsteps a few years later when General Manager Tom Fitzgerald named him the club’s fourth overall pick in 2021.

In addition to franchise records and NHL award medals, the Hughes brothers can add another accomplishment to their resume.

On Thursday, EA Sports announced Devils Jack Hughes, Luke Hughes and Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn as cover athletes for NHL 25.

“Being on the cover with my brothers is incredibly exciting,” Luke Hughes said in the press release. “We have a unique hockey story that we’ve shared together and now a unique cover. We can’t wait for the fans to experience it. NHL25.”

The trio are the first siblings to appear together as cover athletes for EA SPORTS.

In five seasons, Jack has played 306 games and recorded 281 points. At just 23 years old, he has quickly become one of the most recognizable faces in the league and was recently ranked the ninth-best center by the NHL Network.

The center has already broken several season records, including the franchise record for most points scored in a season, set by Patrik Elias in the 2000/01 season.

Luke made his NHL debut on April 11, 2023 against the Buffalo Sabres. It was the night Jack set the Devils’ single-season points record. The youngster scored the first NHL goal of his career a few nights later against the Washington Capitals. It was the game-winning goal in overtime, with Jack credited with the most important assist.

In his first NHL season, the rookie defenseman scored 47 points in 82 games, the second-most points by a first-year defenseman in New Jersey Devils/Colorado Rockies/Kansas City Scouts history behind Barry Beck’s 60 points for the Rockies in the 1977–78 season.

Quinn (24), Jack (23) and Luke (20) are already leaving their own mark and are among the best-known names in the league.

Quinn won the Norris Trophy as the best defenseman in 2023-24, while Luke finished third in the Calder Trophy voting. Jack is the only player in Devils history to average a point per game for three consecutive seasons despite his injuries last season.

Fans can see all three Hughes brothers when the Devils visit Vancouver and play the Canucks on October 30 and again on March 24 when the two teams meet in New Jersey.

The Hughes trio is the ninth family in NHL history to have three or more brothers play in the same game, an impressive feat that should make Jim and Ellen proud as their sons continue to make an impact in the league and, more importantly, support one another.

“On the ice we are competitors and always learning from each other, but off the ice we are brothers who love to play hockey,” Jack said.
