Beaumont teen arrested on charges related to shooting of Pennsylvania teenager

A 15-year-old suspect from the west end of Beaumont is currently in custody. He is accused of an ambush in Port Arthur that was captured on video in which two people fired several shots at a car filled with teenagers, seriously injuring a young girl.

The Beaumont Police Department SWAT team and narcotics agents assisted Port Arthur Police Department investigators Wednesday in executing a search warrant for a home in the 4600 block of Dellwood Lane, according to PAPD. Police took a 15-year-old boy into custody on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators say they recovered additional evidence. They transported the juvenile suspect to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Justice Center.

In April, U.S. Marshals arrested Marcus Kemper in connection with the shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The arrest stems from a shooting at 1:40 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Sabina Townhomes in the 4100 block of 39th Street. According to PAPD, five people, including three juveniles, were sitting in a vehicle in the private driveway of a residence when two suspects approached the car, ambushed it, and fired several shots. Police released video from a Ring camera showing two suspects armed with handguns ambushing the car. The suspects can be seen and heard firing several shots and running away.

A 16-year-old passenger was the only occupant struck and seriously injured, according to Port Arthur police investigators. At the time, police said she was an “unintended victim of this heinous act.”

The teenager was released from hospital after about ten days of recovery.

PAPD Chief Tim Duriso tells KFDM/Fox 4 News that the arrest was the result of persistent police work and that they did not stop until they made an arrest. He thanks the SWAT team and BPD detectives for their teamwork and cooperation.
