A Mississippi aviation company has announced a $43.8 million expansion that will create 63 new jobs by the end of 2025.

Aurora Flight Sciences, a subsidiary of Boeing, is expanding its operations in Columbus, Mississippi. The expansion includes a 50,000-square-foot addition to its existing aircraft systems manufacturing facility and the renovation of an additional 40,000-square-foot space. The company is also modernizing its equipment, machining capabilities and automated fiber placement technology.

The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) supports expansion through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive (MFLEX) program, while AccelerateMS and Lowndes County also provide assistance.

Aurora Flight Sciences opened its Columbus location in 2005 and specializes in designing, building and flying cutting-edge aircraft and developing technologies for commercial and military applications.

Governor Tate Reeves praised the expansion, saying, “This investment by Aurora Flight Sciences is further proof that Mississippi is a great location for cutting-edge aerospace manufacturing. The Golden Triangle region is a hotspot for aerospace excellence, and its influx of skilled, experienced employees ensures that companies like Aurora Flight Sciences remain at the forefront of the industry.”

Bill Cork, executive director of the Mississippi Development Authority, echoed that sentiment, citing the state’s strong economic growth and the importance of the aerospace work being done in Mississippi. “The MDA is proud to support Aurora Flight Sciences as the company continues to be an integral part of the Lowndes County economic landscape,” Cork said.

Luke Colville, Vice President of Manufacturing at Aurora Flight Sciences, thanked the community for their support, saying, “Since coming to Mississippi in 2005, our manufacturing business has grown exponentially. This success would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of the Aurora team members here in Columbus.”

Joe Max Higgins, CEO of Golden Triangle Development LINK, highlighted Aurora’s commitment to the region, stating: “This is Aurora’s third expansion since locating in the Golden Triangle. Their commitment to the continued development of our aerospace sector at GTRA is greatly appreciated.”
