Pewaukee man has performed for water ski club for four decades
PEWAUKEE, Wis. — When it’s summer and it’s a Thursday night in Pewaukee, that usually means there’s a water ski show. It’s been that way for 40 years.
The Pewaukee Lake Water Ski Club is celebrating 40 years of entertaining the community with alumni night on Thursday. Among the performers is their oldest member, Mike “Rocky” Rotar.
In 1984, Rocky came to the beach in Pewaukee to learn from the founder of a new water ski club, and he’s been coming back ever since.
“He was very committed to commitment and that was the first and last time I saw him,” Rocky said. “I never left.”

Not only has he stayed, but he has welcomed two more generations into the community. His daughter and son skied as children, and now his grandchildren ski with him.
Phil Shepet is the president of the ski club. He says he has only been there for 20 years.
“I pale in comparison to Rocky’s experience,” said Phil.
He says some clubs are very competitive, but believes their relaxed attitude ensures people stay loyal across generations.
“We’re not really a competitive team. We just do it for fun and just try to entertain the people who come here,” Phil said.
“Long-time members become family, a second family. It’s just incredible,” Rocky said.
The final performances of the season are next Thursday, August 29th at 6:20pm and Labor Day at 5:30pm. Both will be held at Lakefront Park, 222 W Wisconsin Ave, Pewaukee. Details can be found here.
