14-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy planned to kill the girl’s mother

14-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy planned to kill the girl’s mother

A 14-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy are accused of plotting to murder the girl’s mother. The murder attempt was foiled when the grandmother intervened and the boy allegedly tried to strangle the mother, according to the Macomb County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutor Peter Lucido told the Free Press on Thursday that “the outline and the plan were very detailed and very concise” and included the boy coming into the house and taking off his shoes and the girl being in another room with the dog so it wouldn’t bark.

“And you could go into my mother’s room and kill her. And when the 17-year-old carried out that, the grandmother stood up and intervened, which prevented the 17-year-old from carrying out that. And he ran out of the house and ran, walked and left his shoes there,” Lucido said of the alleged plan.

Lucido said the girl was in her bedroom holding the dog as allegedly planned when the attack occurred in July at an Eastpointe apartment building.

The public prosecutor decided to bring charges against the juveniles in adult court.

Lucido said he wanted to have the case reviewed by a psychologist.

“I know most of our generation have never, ever talked about or thought about these things. And this just seems very bizarre and outrageous to me,” Lucido said. “I feel for the woman who is going through this with her child and I feel for the families, you know, this is really, really tragic. There’s nothing you can say except: Why? What was the reason for this act of taking her mother’s life or trying to take her mother’s life?”

Lucido said the boy allegedly took a pillow and tried to suffocate and strangle the girl’s mother.

Lucido said he did not know the motive behind the alleged plan, but he believed it had something to do with the girl not liking rules.

“These are not crimes against children,” he said, “these are crimes of a serious nature among adults.”

Neither Lucido nor his office’s press release identified the juveniles being held at the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center in Mount Clemens. He did not know the relationship between the juveniles.

The incident occurred on July 24, when the boy was accused of entering the victim’s Eastpointe home and attempting to strangle her before being confronted and fleeing, according to a news release from Lucido’s office Thursday, which said the victim survived and is expected to recover.

Eastpointe police are investigating the incident. Police Chief Corey Haines could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.

Lucido’s office said in its press release that the girl was arraigned on August 14 in 38th District Court in Eastpointe on charges of solicitation to commit murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree premeditated murder, both of which are life felonies. She was held on $1 million bail.

The boy was arraigned in the same court on August 12 and charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree premeditated murder and assault with intent to murder. He was remanded in custody on $2.5 million bail, the press release said.

When one of the teenagers is released from custody, prosecutors say he or she will be required to wear a steel GPS leash, stay at home, have no contact with the victim, witnesses or co-defendant, and have no access to the Internet.

Probable cause conferences are scheduled for August 27 in Eastpointe District Court.
