Dog groomer ensures his pets look their best despite water outage in Altus

ALTUS, Okla. (KSWO) – The Altus community’s water service has finally been restored after a pipe burst near the main treatment plant left the town without water.

“This is one of those things that happens because we’re a decade behind on maintenance,” said Gary Jones, Altus’ city manager. “We’re in the middle of fixing major water and sewer lines.”

Jones attributes the heat to the main pipe being pushed beyond its limits.

Because of the water shutoff, many businesses in Altus had to close for the day. However, one business across the street was able to satisfy its furry customers.

Julia Herrin, owner of Juju’s Dog Grooming, said she was on her way to work when her sister called and told her the water had been turned off.

However, as most people know, bathing without water is not easy, so Julia came up with a plan.

“I told the girls, ‘Wash as many dogs as you can with our pressure.’ Basically, it was just a jet of water,” she explained.

However, they were not finished washing the dogs yet.

“We filled 20-litre buckets,” Julia said. “Luckily, Tammy lives in the country, so they brought some water too, so we could wash the rest of the little dogs that we could wash.”

Although they were without water, Herrin says she is grateful to the workers working to restore the water supply.

“Thank you to the city of Altus for doing everything they can. I know it’s hot out there and they’re working hard.”

The community’s water supply has been restored and now the rest of Julia’s clientele’s dogs can also bathe.
