Teenager dies after medical emergency at Normal West High School

NORMAL (25News Now) – Normal police and the McLean County coroner’s office are investigating the death of a 15-year-old girl Thursday morning.

Shortly before 10 a.m., officers were called to Normal West because a student was having a medical emergency.

A school security officer was on site and assisted school staff who provided assistance to the student, police said.

The teenager was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The McLean County Unit District 5 sent a statement in response to the student’s death.

“We were devastated to learn of the death of a Normal West student.

During class this morning, the student experienced a medical emergency. Staff responded immediately and called 911. She was transported to a local hospital where, we later learned, she passed away.

Our thoughts are with her family and the entire Normal West community. We will do everything we can to support her family, our students and staff.

We have school counselors, school psychologists, social workers and trained support staff available to meet with students and staff throughout the day.”
