. This is not about league rivals making a swap; that is only a small part of the story.

What the media misses is that teams that make a move like this are announcing their moves. Teams only make moves like this when they really like someone else on their roster.

The only conclusion fantasy football managers should draw is that the Commanders are extremely happy with what they have at wideout. Of course, one could also argue that they are excited about

Dyami Brown

but Brown has been on the squad since 2021.

The new addition is McCaffrey, Rice’s third-round draft pick. With Dotson having two years left on his contract, they could have played it slow and kept him as a backup option.

Instead, this opens the doors for McCaffrey, who faces minimal competition for playing time.

Add the Commanders’ rookie wide receiver to your team

While you probably can’t add him to shallower leagues without losing a quality fantasy prospect, McCaffrey should be on the roster in any league with 14 or more teams. With his rise in the Commanders’ rankings, McCaffrey is now ranked 58th in my half-PPR rankings for wide receivers in fantasy football. Expect the train to fill up quickly, because on Fantasy Pros, Andrew Erickson’s pitch speaks the truth:

While caution is often advised with receivers drafted ahead of consensus rankings, McCaffrey’s draft capital on Day 2 should draw fantasy managers’ attention, especially given the potential opportunity in Washington’s offense. The team’s parting ways with Jahan Dotson via a trade suggests McCaffrey could be destined for a larger role in the slot in Year 1.
