This annual event is a must-attend event for Disney fans who don’t want to miss out on the latest announcements and early information on upcoming products from the House of the Mouse.

On the first night, Disney wasted no time in meeting expectations. There was a flood of important news, including the confirmation that development of the long-awaited Frozen 3 And Zootopia 2.

Fans were excited when these popular franchises got the green light for their next chapters. But Disney didn’t stop there – Pixar also caused a stir and announced that The Incredibles 3 is in progress.

But it wasn’t just the sequels that were in the spotlight –Snow White was undoubtedly the talk of the town. The live-action adaptation took center stage, with stars Rachel Zegler (The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) makes a surprise appearance to unveil a brand new trailer.

Although it was confirmed that it would be a completely different story from that of Snow White that fans of the famous cartoon are used to, the trailer was remarkably similar to that story.

From Zegler in a fairytale forest with forest dwellers to the iconic wooden bridge that the seven dwarves cross with the song “Heigh-Ho” and the famous poison apple to a cozy scene with Andrew Burnap’s Jonathan (the replacement for the Prince character), Disney’s trailer remained far from the elements that Zegler had already promoted in 2022 – the ones that saw the backlash reach its peak.

Disney’s Snow White controversy

Disney’s live-action film Snow White has received a great deal of attention, particularly due to the casting choices and controversy surrounding the production. Reactions to the casting, particularly Zegler and the actress’ thoughts on the 1937 film, have sparked online discussion and controversy.

One of the biggest controversies is Zegler’s casting as Snow White. Some fans celebrated the inclusive casting as progress, while others criticized the decision, saying it deviated too much from the original animated film. Zegler herself has spoken out about the reactions, saying she is proud of her role and Disney’s progressive casting decisions.

The comments made at the 2022 D23 Expo resurfaced in 2023, sparking a new wave of criticism, mostly directed at Zegler herself. However, despite Zegler’s initial comments about the character Snow White and the story of the 1937 Disney film, the actress praised the House of Mouse for the story this live-action film will tell.

Another point of contention was the portrayal of the seven dwarves. Actor Peter Dinklage (game of Thrones) publicly criticized Disney’s decision to Snow Whiteand accused the studio of possibly perpetuating outdated stereotypes about people with dwarfism.

Disney then clarified that they would take a “different approach” to portraying the dwarves in the live-action film, stressing that the portrayal would be handled with greater sensitivity and that they initially assumed that they were “magical beings”.
