Headmaster suspended after inappropriate dance with mascot at school rally

ATWATER, Calif. (WKRC) – A high school principal has been placed on leave after inappropriately dancing with the school’s mascot at a school rally.

Robert Nunes, principal of Buhach Colony High School, was placed on leave by the Merced Union High School District after a video of the incident was posted online, People reports.

The father of a student at this school posted the video of the dance on his Facebook profile with the caption: “Am I a square or was that damn weird for a school principal?”

In the video, Principal Nunes is seen dancing suggestively in front of the mascot after the mascot did so in front of him. He is then heard shouting to the students, “What happens in Buhach stays in Buhach.”

According to People, the incident occurred on Friday, August 16, and the principal was placed on leave the following Monday. It was Nunes’ first year as principal.

According to People, MUHSD district spokesperson Viviana Fuentes issued a statement saying:

This decision is part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment. The district is conducting a comprehensive review of the situation. While the investigation is ongoing, Mr. Nunes will not participate in any school-related duties or activities.
