Premiere Date, Book, Case, Cast, Trailer

The Netflix adaptation of Michael Connelly’s books by Mickey Haller is a hit, so it’s no surprise that The client will be continued.

The series premiered in 2022 and has aired two seasons so far, focusing on Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s attorney. While he doesn’t run his practice out of his car — there are certainly a lot of files in the back seat and he spends quite a bit of time in it — co-showrunner Ted Humphrey hasn’t ruled out that it will be a part of his life in the future.

The series was renewed for a third season in August 2023, the same month that the second part of season 2 was released. Below, we’re chronicling everything we know about season 3, from the book it’s based on to the cast, premiere date, and more. (Keep checking back as this will be updated.)

How The client Set up season 3?

Izzy (Jazz Raycole) informed Mickey of a new client, Julian La Cosse (Devon Graye), who was being held at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s station. He was charged with murder and said he could pay Mickey’s fee. According to Julian, a friend, Giselle Dallinger, had recommended him. Mickey did not know the name, but Julian insisted that he must know her, and she said that if he was ever in trouble, he should call him because he was the best lawyer in town. Giselle was dead, and Julian was in trouble, although he insisted that he would never kill her. When Mickey went to the morgue to see her body, he realized that Giselle was Gloria Dayton, also known as Glory Days (Fiona Rene). She had said she wanted to spend some time in Hawaii, where her mother lived. This seemed to set up a third season to The Gods of Guilt.

What book is season 3 based on?

Netflix has announced that season 3, consisting of 10 episodes, will indeed be available on The Gods of Guiltthe fifth book in Connelly’s series.

“During Season 3 of The client based on Michael Connelly’s novel The Gods of Guiltwe decided that a fun (and poignant) way to start the season would be with a flashback that gives us a glimpse into how Mickey Haller became Mickey Haller – not only the brilliant criminal defense attorney, but also the husband, the father and the man he was destined to become,” co-showrunners and executive producers Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez said in a statement.

“There is no flashback like this in the book, so we came up with something that would serve as a fitting introduction to the season’s story on both a plot level and an emotional level,” they continued, referring to the first photos released for the season. “These images, of a young Mickey finishing up surfing before a life-changing day at work, as well as him snuggling with his wife Maggie on the couch after putting their young daughter Hayley to bed, come from a pair of those flashbacks that bookend the first episode and lead us into the rest of Season 3.”

Season 1 began “with the guy on the beach who is just a broken shadow of a man who has lost his career and basically everything in his life,” and with the series, her goal is to use Mickey to “tell the story that’s told in the books, of the mountains that this guy has to climb and the valleys that he has to keep falling into on his way to the redemption that he’s going to achieve,” Humphrey also told TV Insider after Season 2.

Addressing this case at this point for Mickey “feels like the logical next story in this journey,” he continued. “We have a plan for four seasons so far, and we have plans for more if we’re lucky enough to be able to keep the show going. We have plans for more, but we have the next two seasons planned in particular, which we hope to get a chance to do, and we know which books those will be based on.” It is not yet known which book a fourth season, if one is picked up, will be based on.
