Family asks for help as search for missing 15-year-old girl enters fifth week

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – The search for 15-year-old Alaina Hendricks is now in its fifth week and her family is desperately searching for answers.

Hendricks, who lived in a Henrico group home, ran off with another girl and has not been seen since. Her family is becoming increasingly worried as the days pass without hearing from her.

“As parents, the clock never stops. You’re constantly worrying,” said Cybil Nance, Alaina’s aunt and guardian. “On the days, evenings and weekends when we don’t have contact, we just sit there and wait.”

Hendricks was last seen at Sweet Frog in Glen Allen, Virginia, before she and another girl, Hailey Yost, ran away together. While Yost was found two weeks ago, there is no sign of Alaina.

“We got a call that she was missing and that police had been contacted,” Nance said. “I asked if they were pressing for information since she was the last person to be with my child.”

Nance has worked tirelessly to find Hendricks, who she says would never leave for so long without contacting someone.

“She’s always trying to reach out to someone – whether it’s me, her uncle or our two children, who are like siblings to her. The fact that she hasn’t reached out to anyone is very disturbing,” Nance said.

The family is also concerned that Hendricks is not getting medication. The family is now asking the community for support to bring her home safely.

“We just need to show her that she is loved and can be loved. We need to know that she is safe. If she runs away, that’s OK, but we need to know that she is OK,” Nance said.

Henrico Police and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office have said they are actively pursuing leads in this case, but little information is currently available to the public.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office at (434) 592-9580 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 798-5900.
