Suburban teenager sentenced to 8 years in prison after severely abusing autistic man

St. Charles, Illinois – A 17-year-old West Chicago teenager was sentenced to eight years in prison last year after brutally attacking an autistic man.

Sebastian Kegebein was sentenced to this verdict this week after pleading guilty to attempted premeditated murder.

On the night of July 23, 2023, Kane County Sheriff’s officers responded to a report that a 19-year-old man had been brutally beaten and went to Old Kirk Road 0N785.

The man has autism and was kicked hundreds of times in the face, head and body. While lying on the floor in the fetal position, the man was repeatedly and violently kicked in the head.

Kegebein was three days away from his 16th birthday at the time and was reportedly with his co-defendant Jacob Berrera, whose case is still pending.

Authorities say the two high-fived each other after the fight and one of them said, “He’s going to die.”

The man suffered life-threatening injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit at Northwestern University. He suffered permanent brain damage and seizures as a result of the incident, authorities said.

Kegebein was tried as an adult and, according to prosecutors, must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. He was credited with 366 years in juvenile detention.

There is no booking photo available for Kegebein.
