La Crosse dance studio and art space move to the North Side

Michelle Malone moves her I&E Dance Studio from the King on 5th building at 505 King St. in downtown La Crosse to the former Debo’s Vintage Emporium store at 1232 Caledonia St., where she plans to open her new Art House La Crosse. Debo’s closed earlier this year.

Malone opened her dance studio, which offers dance classes for adults 18 and older, in January 2023. If all goes according to plan, she told me this week, it will open at the new location on Sept. 3. She plans to have Art House La Crosse up and running at the same location sometime in the fall.

Art House La Crosse will be a place that inspires adult creativity and explores the beauty of all forms of art, Malone said. It will feature a work lounge, art workshops, a place where people can make art with donated materials, live music events, healthy food, beverages and an art shop selling locally made art, among other features.

Malone said her dance classes are held primarily in the evenings and that Art House La Crosse will use the building during the day as well. “I wanted to provide more opportunities for adults to express their creativity,” she said of starting the new business.

She has organized an outdoor dance concert, “Lifted Expanse,” to be held this Sunday, August 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. in her parent’s backyard at N4775 Linse Road east of West Salem to help cover the costs of opening Art House La Crosse. There will be live music by Cass Magpie, yard games, performances by students from I&E Dance Studio and film screenings from last year’s Rethink Dance Film Festival in North Dakota. Tickets can be purchased on the website www.iandedancecompany.com or at the concert.
