Yao Ming’s teenage daughter, Yao Qinlei, is now an adult – and could even surpass her mother Ye Li in height.

Go viral: Yao Qinlei, whose English name is Amy, 13, recently rose to fame on Chinese social media after she was spotted walking with her family in Shanghai. The teenager, who is said to be nearly 190 centimeters tall, is now almost as tall as her mother, who is said to be 190.5 centimeters tall.

Posts shared by several Weibo accounts highlight Amy’s stature. A video taken at an airport last year shows her already towering over her grandmother; another from 2022 shows her standing next to her father – who is 229 centimeters tall – with her height reaching up to his chest.

About Amy: Amy was born in Houston on May 21, 2010. It was clear from an early age that she had inherited her parents’ height. According to previous reports, she was already about 5’2″ tall at just 7 years old.

It remains to be seen whether Amy will follow in her parents’ footsteps in basketball. Her father, who is considered one of the greatest players of all time on the NBA court, was inducted into the league’s Hall of Fame, while her mother played for the Chinese women’s national basketball team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

In a 2013 interview, Yao said he believed his daughter needed to play sports to shape her character. “I believe team sports teach you communication, leadership, teamwork and of course physical health, and also how to deal with the frustration when you lose,” he told the Associated Press.
