Kevin Magnussen insists he has “nothing left to prove” in his final season at Haas

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen has explained that, given his ten years of experience in the sport, he feels he has nothing left to prove in the coming races. His comments come at a time when his future is uncertain, with his seat at Haas already booked for next season and most positions at other teams already filled.

Haas will field a new driver line-up for the 2025 season, which includes current Alpine driver Esteban Ocon and Ferrari reserve driver Oliver Bearman. They will replace Magnussen and Nico Hülkenberg, the latter of whom has secured a place at the Sauber F1 team, which is in the process of being fully acquired by Audi.

The main changes in the team are due to the promotion of Ayao Komatsu to team principal earlier this year, replacing Günther Steiner. Haas has drawn up a strategic recovery plan for the coming months and has already surpassed last season’s points total.

Given the limited options on the grid, Magnussen was asked about his plans for the future before the Dutch Grand Prix. He told the media:

“No, not really. I mean, I have some ideas about what I’m going to do. But there’s no news to tell and nothing to announce.”

Magnussen, who has been racing in the sport for the past decade, added that he has nothing to prove to the other teams and that he plans to enjoy the upcoming races without any worries. He said:

“I think I’m approaching this second half of the year like any other part of the year.

“I’ve been in this sport for so long that I think there’s nothing left to prove.

“I have shown what kind of driver I am for over 10 years and I can’t really change that in six months.

“So I’m pretty relaxed about it and looking forward to everything that’s coming next year.

“There are options for me and whatever happens, I’m definitely going to enjoy the rest of this year. Let’s see what happens.”

When asked if racing was a priority for him, Magnussen did not rule out pursuing other activities next year. He revealed:

“The priority is to spend my time after this year doing something that fulfills me and makes me happy.

“It can be many things. Formula 1 is one of them.”

With Haas sitting seventh in the constructors’ championship behind Red Bull junior team VCARB (RB), Magnussen was asked if it was possible to beat VCARB in sixth place with a current difference of 7 points. He explained:

“No, not really, but it is possible.

“In terms of performance and points, they are within realistic reach of us.

“That’s what we should be aiming for. I think we have a chance. It’s more likely that they will outperform us in the second half.

“But you don’t know what developments they will bring and whether they will work and things like that.

“So I think we have a realistic chance to fight them. If you look at the first half of the season, they were stronger than us, but only just. So I think there is a chance.”
