GOP committee member from Montco removed from post for supporting Harris

UPPER MERION, PA — A Montgomery County Republican Party committeeman has been removed from his post due to his support of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and his public criticism of former President Trump.

The removal comes just days after Matthew McCaffery was subjected to an overnight “swatting” attack that sparked a large police presence outside his Upper Merion home. The incident occurred after he spoke on CNN about the dangers of a second Trump administration.

“The committee felt that this was a very clear-cut case,” wrote Christian Nascimento, chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Committee, in a letter to McCaffery. “You have admitted to violating the MCRC’s charter and have not defended your actions.”

After the swatting incident, he noted, “These types of attacks are exactly why I speak out against the MAGA wing of my party and why I proudly vote for Kamala Harris.”

Nascimento said McCaffery’s comments showed “lack of remorse.”

“Similar behaviour would continue if you were allowed to keep your seats – only to the detriment of the party,” he wrote.

McCaffery answered very briefly.

“I guess they noticed my apathy,” he said on his social media profile.

No arrests have been made in the swatting case so far.
