PhilTower announces significant cost and energy savings in partnership with PowerX

Philippines-based tower company Phil-Tower Consortium Inc. announces significant cost and energy savings from its year-long strategic partnership with PowerX, a data intelligence platform specializing in tower energy infrastructure optimization. Launched in late 2023 and now expanded from the initial 1,350 sites to 3,500 sites, this collaboration has resulted in significant capital expenditure (CapEx) and operating expenditure (OpEx) savings, improved operational efficiency, and a significant reduction in energy consumption across PhilTower’s network.

Within six months of leveraging PowerX’s AI-driven data intelligence, PhilTower successfully eliminated diesel generators (DG) at 50% of its sites and replaced them with battery backup systems. This switch resulted in generator OpEx savings of nearly half a million USD and reduced annual CO2 emissions by over 700 tons.

In addition, optimized operations and improved visibility of the tower inventory have reduced maintenance costs, reduced mean time to repair (MTTR) by 30%, and increased network availability to 99.98%. These improvements have not only increased data usage and revenue for telecom customers, but also saved an additional half a million USD per year in fuel costs.

PhilTower has also invested over USD 2.8 million in battery replacements and upgrades to optimize backup capacities while reducing capital expenditures. Automating reporting and decision-making processes has further reduced operational workload and improved the efficiency of alarm and trouble ticket management through closed-loop workflows.

PhilTower plans to further modernize its network with hybrid power plants, solar energy integration, cooling optimizations, and power system consolidations. With insights into the health of the network and energy forecasts, PhilTower expects to save over $1.5 million next year and reduce carbon emissions by nearly 10,000 tons per year. These initiatives will be expanded to an additional 2,000 towers after PhilTower’s planned merger with Miescor Infrastructure Development Corporation (MIDC), bringing the total number of optimized towers to 3,500.
