Search continues for Edmund Lachance in Marshfield, MA – NBC Boston

Since Thursday, an intensive search has been underway for a 53-year-old sex offender in Marshfield, Massachusetts. He is accused of following a teenager and taking her with him.

According to Marshfield police, the incident occurred when the 17-year-old girl went jogging on Tuesday evening. Edmund Lachance offered to give her a ride, but when she refused, he followed her.

The girl then ran away, police said, called 911 and described the vehicle Lachance was driving.

Officers quickly found him outside a home in Scituate. Investigators said he was evasive about the incident, but they did not have enough information to make an arrest at the time.

Because Lachance is a Level 3 sex offender, he must register every 90 days for life and provide his new address whenever he moves. However, police said he failed to register his new address at a home in Scituate.

“He does not pose an immediate threat to public safety, but he does have a history of predatory behavior… we want to find him,” said Marshfield police Officer Camden Bruno.

According to the Sex Offender Registry Board, Lachance was convicted of rape in 1991 and of rape and indecent assault on a person 14 years of age or older in 2001.

When officers returned to the house, 53-year-old Lachance was gone.

He was last seen driving a black 2006 Lincoln Zephyr with the Massachusetts license plate 4NWY15.
