Lost in Random The Eternal Die is a roguelike variant of the fantasy game

The original Lost in Random is one of those true indie games that surprised me because I enjoyed it so much. Part of the EA Originals formula, it tells a dark story set in a stunning fantasy world where everyone’s fate depends on the roll of sentient magic dice. News that Lost in Random: The Eternal Cube brings us back to see what happens next, and that it shakes things up even further with a roguelike spin makes me very excited to find out more.

Lost in Random: The Eternal Die picks up after the events of the previous game. A nefarious figure known as the Storyteller has imprisoned Queen Aleksandra and her companion Fortune in the eponymous Eternal Die. Here, the sequel takes elements from the best roguelike games, as it switches to a slightly more Hades-like camera perspective and features a randomly generated series of dangerous enemies in each playthrough and massive board games similar to those in the original.

While I definitely enjoyed the more structured story of the first Lost in Random, I’m pretty excited about the potential of this sequel. I’ve become a huge fan of the combat system, where you build a deck of equipment and ability cards that you can play by rolling dice and using the resulting numbers to determine the powers you have at your disposal. I’m really looking forward to having a way to play with them in a format that’s more geared towards replayability and where I can really experiment with different equipment and playstyles.

I also really enjoyed the board game-style arena battles of the original, where you move pieces around a track to complete objectives while also using your various weapons and ability cards to deal with incoming enemies. I’m happy to hear that The Eternal Die will feature more such encounters, with a variety of new dungeons and themed rooms, as well as additional challenges based on classic board and tabletop games.

“Over the years, we’ve seen how well Lost in Random has resonated with players around the world,” says Game Director Martin Storm. “We thought about how we could continue to expand on this world and decided to create an action-packed, random-effects-infused roguelite where we raise the stakes and speed to create an entirely new gameplay experience. We can’t wait for players to see what we have in store in Lost in Random: The Eternal Die and try their luck again.”
