As part of a nationwide effort to promote disaster preparedness in local communities, Anheuser-Busch and its wholesale partner Wilsbach Distributors Inc. donated a pallet of canned water to Neversink Fire Company last month.

Josh Shank, chief of the Neversink Fire Company, said it’s always important for firefighters to have water on hand so they can recover from the heat during a call. Shank said they use more water during a particularly hot summer like this one.

“The donations from the community and the Anheuser-Busch grant are very helpful to us as a department and also to the relief organizations because when we’re out there for so long in the hot summer, in the heat and humidity, rehabilitation is very important,” Shank said. “The guys get fresh water and cold drinks, whether it’s cold or hot, and we really appreciate that.”

While some of the local funds go towards purchasing drinking water for the fire department, Shank said their supply is supplemented by donations. When they feel their drinking water supply is running low, they usually start by reaching out through Facebook to see if there is interest in donations.

Shank said that as part of the grant, the Neversink Fire Company distributed several cases of water to relief agencies including South Lebanon, Mount Gretna, Annville-Cleona, Cornwall, Quentin, Palmyra and Speedwell.
