Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl” reaches the best chart position of all time

It’s been more than 50 years since Van Morrison launched his music career in glorious fashion with a song that would define his life’s work. “Brown Eyed Girl” was his first real single and also his breakthrough hit that made him known to millions of people.

Decades after its initial release, the song continues to delight audiences around the world. “Brown Eyed Girl” even manages to reach a new peak in one of the charts where it has remained for months, as fans in one country still happily give the classic a spin.

“Brown Eyed Girl” is climbing this week on the Official Streaming Charts, the UK ranking of the most streamed tracks in the country. The single climbs from number 76 to number 67, which is a new high for the single.

Morrison has produced many hits throughout his career, but none have managed to endure like “Brown Eyed Girl.” The song charted numerous times in the UK, but despite its huge popularity, it never became the breakout hit it was in the US.

The Standard was the song that made it the furthest up the official download singles chart, peaking at number 59. It remained just one notch lower on the UK’s biggest songs chart. The same song also peaked at number 84 on the singles sales chart, where it spent just one place.

While “Brown Eyed Girl” is rising, Morrison is filling two spots on two other charts. In the official album sales list Live in Orangefield from 10th place to 65th place. At the same time Astral Weeks appears again on the list at number 96.

These two efforts can also be found on another ranking at the same time. Live in Orangefield has slipped to number 58 on the official physical albums chart after debuting at number 12 in the last frame. Astral Weeks also recovers in the same list and now ranks 86th.
