WARNING – GRAPHIC CONTENT: The image of a young, bloodied Japanese woman casually smoking a cigarette while a dying man lies on the floor has sparked a morbid obsession among people who describe her as “too beautiful” to be a criminal.

Images of the bloody scene in which Yuka Takaoka is accused of stabbing her boyfriend in the stomach with a kitchen knife led to memes and fan art circulating on social media glorifying the act.

Photos from the crime scene, widely shared on social media, show a young woman sitting on the ground floor of an apartment in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district, with a bleeding man lying behind her, his stomach reportedly slashed open.

The woman is seen holding a cell phone in one bloody hand and a cigarette in the other, ignoring the police officer crouching in front of her.

According to Fuji News Network, 21-year-old Takaoka planned to kill Phoenix Luna and then herself in a sadistic murder-suicide plot.

“I didn’t want to go anywhere, so I sat down on the outside steps,” she allegedly told police about the May 24 incident.

“I didn’t call the emergency services because I wanted to die after watching him die from the stabbing.

“My plan was to kill him first, and then I thought about committing suicide. Since I loved him so much, I just couldn’t help it. After I killed him, I wanted to die too,” Tokyo Reporter quoted Takaoka as saying.

Attempted murder triggers anime obsession

The woman’s nonchalant reaction to the alleged murder attempt has earned her a morbid following, with many believing Takaoka to be the real-life incarnation of a Yandere anime character.

Yandere usually take the form of a sweet, beautiful young woman who suddenly becomes aggressive and often resorts to murderous violence in her search for love.

Crime scene photos and media reports of Takaoka’s smiling arrest photos have been the subject of numerous memes and fan art by people who describe her as “too beautiful.”

The victim reportedly survived the alleged attack. Takaoka published a post on Instagram in which she said he boasted about being alive.
