Cardinal Health opens new data center in northeast Ohio

Pharmaceutical, medical and laboratory products distributor Cardinal Health announced the opening of a new distribution center in Walton Hills, Ohio.

Scheduled to be operational in spring 2025, the facility is more than 30% larger than the Cardinal Health facility in Solon, Ohio, that it will replace. All employees will transition to the new facility.

“We are proud to expand our capacity in Northeast Ohio, a major healthcare hub and a key market that our medical products and distribution business has served for more than 25 years,” said Sherrick Orie, vice president of central region operations at Cardinal Health, in an Aug. 21 press release. “This distribution center will feature technology and automation to improve the quality of service to our customers and the daily work experiences of our employees, as well as additional warehouse capacity essential to meeting the growing needs of our customers.”

The building will be equipped with next-generation technologies to support workflows and make the transport of medical products through the facility more efficient.

In 2023, the company opened two distribution centers in Central Ohio to support its U.S. medical device and distribution and home solutions businesses. Cardinal Health also announced a distribution center in the Boston, MA area, expected to open in late 2024.

Cardinal Health reported its financial results on August 14, which showed revenue growth of 12% year-over-year in the fourth quarter of 2024 (April-June), while total revenue in fiscal 2024 of $226.8 billion increased 11% year-over-year and net income increased 61% to $852 million.

The company ranked third on MDM’s list of top pharmaceutical and healthcare distributors.
