LAFC and Columbus Crew face each other in the Leagues Cup final

LAFC and Columbus Crew secured their spots in the Leagues Cup final on Wednesday night, setting the stage for a highly anticipated rematch of the 2023 MLS Cup final.

Last year, the Crew narrowly defeated LAFC 2-1 in Columbus. This Sunday, both teams will compete for the title again at the same venue.

Diego Rossi continued his impressive form, scoring his third brace in four games to lead Columbus to a 3-1 victory over Philadelphia Union in the first semi-final.

Rossi opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a diving header after taking advantage of a save by Union goalkeeper Andre Blake.

He scored his second goal in the 43rd minute, off a lob from Christian Ramírez, shortly after Dániel Gazdag equalized for Philadelphia in the 32nd minute.

Cucho Hernández extended Columbus’s lead in the 53rd minute by converting his own rebound to secure a two-goal lead.

Meanwhile, LAFC defeated Colorado Rapids 4-0 in the second semi-final, securing the revenge they longed for against the Crew.

Mateusz Bogusz and Kei Kamara scored three minutes apart late in the first half, with Bogusz scoring from 16 yards and Kamara completing an assist from Ryan Hollingshead.

Dénis Bouanga and Lewis O’Brien increased LAFC’s score in the second half, while goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made three important saves to keep the clean sheet.
