A man has been charged with murder in connection with a highway shooting in Morgan Park last year that left three people dead, including a 1-year-old girl.

Sean Richardson, 20, was arrested on Wednesday and is charged with three counts each of first-degree murder and attempted murder.

He is accused of being involved in the Feb. 19 shooting on Interstate 57 near 116th Street that killed 1-year-old A-mara Hall, her 19-year-old father, Nasir Hall, and 13-year-old William Smith, according to Chicago police and the Cook County coroner’s office.

Two other boys, ages 14 and 15, and a 38-year-old woman who was driving the car were also injured in the shooting, a police report said.

Her car, which had 25 bullet holes in it, had left the freeway and come to a stop near the end of the 111th Street exit ramp, according to Illinois State Police and the report.

William Smith was an eighth-grader at the Montessori School of Englewood.

“Will was a happy person, he was always a happy person, you could never catch him down or angry about anything,” said classmate Darwin Sorrells, 14, at a vigil a few days after the shooting. “He was always someone to be around.”

William was related to the other two victims of the shooting, according to the school. A relative of A-mara told the Sun-Times that the infant’s mother and father, Nasir Hall, had just moved into an apartment together.

Richardson, of Austin, was remanded in custody during a court hearing on Wednesday.

His next court date is scheduled for September 10.
