At least four people have died within two days due to severe flooding caused by monsoon rains in Cumilla district.

Three of the deceased died on Wednesday (August 21) and one on Monday (August 19). Two of the deceased lost their lives due to electrocution, one died when a tree fell on him and another drowned in the floods.

One of the dead is Keramot Ali, 45, a resident of Daudpur area of ​​Nangalkot municipality in Cumilla. He died yesterday (August 21) night while catching fish near a local bridge.

When he drowned, locals started searching for him. Later, his body was found floating nearby. He was taken to the local hospital where doctors on duty pronounced him dead.

Deb Das Deb, health officer of Nangalkot upazila, said, “Keramot was brought dead to the hospital around midnight. His family took his body with them after we declared him dead. We came to know that he had slipped while fishing and fell into the water and could not come out.”

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Rafi, a youth from the Chotra district of Cumilla city, died of electrocution when he touched an electricity pole during rain.

Jobayer Hossain, a doctor at Cumilla General Hospital, confirmed the incident.

Another victim is Shahadat Hossain, an emigrant who died when a tree fell on his head while he was fishing in floodwaters during the rain.

The incident occurred yesterday in Sonakatia Purbopara area in Chauddagram upazila of the district.

Shahadat was the son of Kanu Mia from Sonakatia village.

On Monday, a lawyer named Sohrab Hasan Shohag lost his life when he was electrocuted at Salahuddin junction in Cumilla town.

Another person, Shohag, died when he left his pregnant wife at a diagnostic center and became entangled in flooded power lines on the road.
