There are some similarities, as viewers will see the dancers competing on a weekly basis. But the road to fame will not be easy.

Coach Glo deals with Teaching talented dancers with complicated choreographytheir overprotective mothers who believe her Daughter deserves an A-list cast and plenty of breakdowns. She teaches with a hard fist, but it ultimately pays off. Collider spoke with Hampton about what to expect as she leads her dancers to victory. She also talks about the controversy from the original showand the scandals that followed.

Glo Hampton says “Dance Moms: A New Generation” is her time to shine

Hampton is not an unknown face for the Dancing mothers Fandom. She first appeared in season 3 when Miller called her and her daughter Kaeli Ware to join the backup team. She and Miller would clashas Miller would with most mothers. Hampton has her own impressive resume as a dance teacher. In her career, she has helped students dance professionally on Broadway, in music videos, on tour, and in films. She can’t wait for audiences to see her in that realm.

“I’m in my element now. I’m a dance teacher. I’ve been doing this for 40 yearsand I’m really excited to take it to the next level and show the world what I do and what I’m good at. I can’t wait for everyone to see it,” she says. But she says there are challenges. “In this show, you’re going to see a lot of great dancing. You’re going to see a lot of fabulous faces. There are some tears. This experience was a lot faster than the dancers are used to,” she admits. “So I think that just puts great pressure on everyone. But somehow we’ll get through it together. I think the audience will fall in love with these kids.”

There has been a lot of controversy since the original series, and much of the backlash has revolved around Miller’s coaching style. Many dancers say they were traumatized by their time with Miller on the show, so much so that some took a break from dancing. Miller has refined her teaching method and says that dancers are where they are thanks to her. Hampton understands both sides.

“I think every single one of the original cast members has said they would do it all again. Do I agree with certain teaching styles? Absolutely not. And I think the answer for anyone wondering how this show is different lies in the title of the show: It’s Dance Moms: A New Era”, she claims. “So this is a new era, and it is a new style of teaching. I teach for the love of it. And am I tough? Absolutely. But I have the success rate to back it up.”

Hampton says the way her students receive her is also different. They are not afraid of her. Some of Miller’s students have spoken out against Miller’s tactics. “Every teacher has their own teaching method. I demand a lot from my students. I’m tough, but I think it’s more of a love and toughness situation. My kids want to please me no matter what. They hate to disappoint me. And I think that drives them to work hard for me,” she explains.

“Dance Moms” gives art its blossoms

Dance shows are still popular today. With shows like Dancing with the stars And So you think you can dance, or even documentaries like America’s darlings reveal the rigorous training that dancers go through. Hampton says A new era is an extension.

“Dancing is just huge. Dance competitions are a huge industry. We’re a hometown studio. All of my kids have been trained by me. People can look at them and say, ‘I could be like that.’ I think it’s so important for young dancers to have people like that to look up to.”

According to Glo Hampton, diversity in dance has improved

One criticism of the dance world has always been the lack of diversity, especially in the classical genres. The first iteration showed the challenges Nia Sioux under Miller’s guidance. She often received choreographies and costumes that were considered ethnic from her mother, who complained to Miller that she didn’t spend as much time with Nia as the other girls. That’s a common occurrence in the dance world. But Hampton says there have been some improvements.

“I think there has been progress, thank God. I talked about Misty Copeland in another interview. She is such a huge idol for my daughter and not just as a woman of color but because she has a different body type,” Hampton explains. “She is muscular and I think it was a big deal for Misty to finally get the recognition she deserved when she was promoted to principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre. I think the face of dance has changed. My daughter has struggled with that herself in the ballet industry. She is almost six feet tall. So This is not an ideal situation for a ballet dancer. But luckily she has found her place. I hope everyone can do the same.”
